I've setup a backup ASHLPD server, but I can't get it to work as a backup.

This is my OPR:ASHLPR.INI file:

[ASHLPR]
;server defines IP of ASHLPD server (unless overridden in PQI file)
SERVER=192.168.241.21:31515
SERVER=192.168.241.40:31515 ;defines a backup ASHLPD server

But when I kill the 241.21 instance of ASHLPD it never tries to print to 241.40.

So, is there something I've missed in the setup, or is this a glitch?

It does work if I change a printers .ini file on the application server to:

COMMAND=SBX:ASHLPR,0,192.168.241.40:31515

Which version of ASHLPR.SBX are you using? I think this was resolved in 1.3(114). Prior to that, it just kept retrying on the first server.

Note, however, that ASHLPR.SBX 1.3(114) may require A-Shell 5.0.996.3 or higher to be effective, because it relies on an enhancement to the TCPX routine to allow quick timeout of connection attempts. (Normally, when you try to connect to a remote server that is not accepting connections, it fails quickly. But apparently this is not the case with Windows servers, or some Windows servers. I'm guessing it is a security-related "feature" to make it difficult for remote servers to probe Windows machines for available ports. So I added a timeout feature to the TCPOP_CONNECT call, which ASHLPR uses to quickly time out and then switch to the backup server.)

I'm running 1.1(114), so that's probably it. But, I can't seem to find a different version of ASHLPD.

Where can I get it?

I just posted the latest here:

ASHLPR.SBX 1.3(114)
ASHLPD.LIT 1.2(119)

Ok, I've upgraded the ASHLPD to:

A-Shell version 998.8

And I've installed those files, and I'm still getting the same behavior.

This is an ATE/Linux setup. I'm guessing there's something I need to do on the Linux side.

The Linux A-Shell version is 998.1. There is not a ASHLPR.SBX or ASHLPD.LIT. Do I need to add those?
I'm assuming that they are built into to the install? Should we wait for a compile with those files, and use ashupd on the linux box to update it?

The ASHLPR.SBX belongs in the BAS: directory on the application server side (i.e. LINUX in this case). It should referenced by the printer init file for the print queue that you are redirecting to ASHLPD.
