# Mstate

_mstate_ ([Num](num.md)) indicates the state of the menu item:

| **Symbol** | **Value** | **Meaning** |
|------|------|------|
| MBST\_ENABLE | \&h00000000 | Enabled |
| MBST\_DISABLE | \&h00000001 | Disable (grayed out) |
| MBST\_CHECKED | \&h10000000 | Menu item is checked (see MBF\_CHKMNU and MBF\_RADIOMNU in [Mtype](mtype.md)) |
| MBST\_HILITE | \&h20000000 | Adds visual highlighting to the item. Under Vista and later, the effect is quite subtle, and basically the same as what you get when the mouse hovers over an item. |
| MBST\_DEFAULT | \&h40000000 | Menu item is the default  |
