# Background Task > [HTML Version](backgroundtask.htm) (Windows only) The** -t **switch causes A-Shell to operate in a pseudo background mode which simulates the way a program would run under the AMOS Task Manager, except no log file is created. This switch is used internally by [SUBMIT.LIT](submit_lit.htm.md) when running under Windows. Under Unix, you can use the normal shell syntax for running a program in background (i.e. by placing an "and" at the end of the command line.) Note that this option was previously implemented as **–b**.
