DIR Switches

In the list of switches below, the bold shading shows the abbreviations that can be used. In most cases, the abbreviation is simply enough characters to uniquely identify the switch.

Eliminate the directory and size information from the output. When combined with the /NATIVE switch, it produces just a list of filenames (file.ext), similar to the Unix ls -1 command.

/ADATE

Display last access date.

/ATIME

Display last access time.

/BYTES

Display file sizes in bytes rather than blocks.

/CDATE

Display file "c date."

/CONTIGUOUS

Display a "C" to identify "contiguous" files. Under A-Shell, this really just means the file is a multiple of 512 bytes.

/CTIME

Display file "c time". Usually used with /CDATE. See notes under CDATE for differences between the "c date" under Windows and Unix.

/DATA

Display complete filespecs.

/ENCRYPTED

For installations using A-Shell's Encrypted File System (EFS), display an 'E' next to files that are encrypted. For non-EFS systems, will display a '?' indicating that the encryption status is unknown.

/ERSATZ

Append the ersatz directory name (if applicable) to the the Dev:[p,pn] header for each directory group of files displayed.

/FULL

Same as +/H/CON/V.

/HASH

Display hash code.

/HUMAN

Display file sizes in bytes rather than blocks, and display in kilobytes (K), megabytes (M), or gigabytes (G) as appropriate.

/KILL

Delete and replace listfile.

/LONG

Change the default display layout to filename of <72 or less>.extension of <8 or fewer> characters.

/LT

Sort by descending—newest to oldest—update date, in size update fspec format; similar to Unix ls -lt.

/MEMREQ

Memory required for program variable storage.

/MAX:n

Display only files with n or fewer blocks.

/MIN:n

Display only files with n or more blocks.

/MAXDAYS:#

Omit from the display any files that have been modified more than # days ago.

/MINDAYS:#

Omit from the display any files that have been modified less than # days ago.

/MAXSECS:#

Omit from the display any files that have been modified more than # seconds ago.

/MINSECS:#

Omit from the display any files that have been modified less than # seconds ago.

/NATIVE {:len}

Display files in the native format.

/NOFILES

Omit filenames; just output totals.

/PAGE

Pause after each page of output.

/SEXT

Sort by ascending extensions.

/SNAME

Sort by ascending filenames.

/SNODEV

Remove primary sort on DEVICE; see SNOxxx.

/SNOPPN

Remove primary sort on DEVICE; see SNOxxx.

/SRUDATE

Sort by descending update dates.

/SSIZE

Sort by ascending file sizes.

/SUDATE

Sort by ascending update dates.

/U

Same as /UDATE /UTIME.

/UDATE

Display file update (last modified) dates.

/UTIME

Display file update (last modified) times.

/VERSION

Display file version if available. Also see VERSYS.

/WARN

Force DIR to display the message "Warning: skipping incompatible filespec" when applicable. This message was displayed by default (i.e., without the /WARN switch) in versions of DIR before 3.0(140).

/WIDE:n

Display in n columns. Default n=4.

/?

Write switch listing and usage info to the screen.
