# Retrieve stdin

**xcall CGIUTL, CGIOP\_STDIN, string **

_Opcode_ 1, CGIOP\_STDIN retrieves the entire stdin_ _into the _string _parameter. The web server sends all of the form and parameter information from the request to the CGI program via the stdin channel for both the GET and POST methods. This method isn't typically necessary if you just want to retrieve standard parameters, since CGIOP\_GETPAR is able to access the stdin channel directly. But it is essential for retrieving the body of a request, such as a SOAP request, or any request formatted as an XML or JSON document.

**Parameters**

_string  _([String](string.htm.md) or unformatted)  \[in\]

Returns the contents of stdin, up to the size of string (if fixed). If dynamic (S,0 or X,0) string will be expanded as needed to contain the entire stdin.
