Visual Studio Code is an IDE provided by Microsoft since 2015, and is naturally somewhat more popular than APN. ASB development is supported via a language extension, initially created by Matt Swann in 2023. MicroSabio took over the support and development in 2026, making it available through the Extensions Marketplace. (Just search for "A-Shell" in the Extensions panel within VSCode to install and access the readme details to help you get the compiler configured.) The extension package includes both the Windows and Linux versions of the standalone compiler, allowing development within either environment (via WSL for the Linux case). PowerShell and Linux scripts that interface between VSCode and the compiler are provided, but may need to be edited per your specific switch preferences. Unlike the APN version, which relies on the -so switch to communicate the error information to the editor, here the essential switch is -b, which outputs errors to a .lst file.
Aside from the readme file packaged with the extension, see the A-Shell VSCode Forum for additional information, support and community engagement.
